New Siblands school has a group of dedicated Local Governors who form the Local Governing Body. They include representatives of our parents, staff, and local community and oversee strategic aspects, challenging and supporting the Head Teacher in resource allocation, and the improvement of educational standards.

Each Governor oversees a specific area of school improvement linked to the School Development Plan. These areas may change annually as the school priorities develop. The Headteacher, Karl Hemmings, is a member of the Governing Body and holds responsibility for the entire school.

Welcome to all Parents and Carers and friends,

My name is Moira Lloyd, and I am privileged to have been the Chair of the local governing body at New Siblands School for the last two years. I have been a Governor since 2020 and have also had a long association with supporting the school community through my previous work as an Educational Psychologist over several years. Until March 2024, I also worked part time delivering autism workshops for parents and carers and staff in Bristol. I firmly believe in the importance of close, partnership working between parents and staff to ensure the best outcomes for our children and young people.

I am fortunate to be part of a highly committed and skilled team, who volunteer their time to support the work of the school. The governors are a mixture of parent Governors, school staff and co-opted Governors, who have a variety of skills and backgrounds that provide the school with a wide range of expertise and support. What unifies us is our commitment to the school’s vision and mission to support our learners to develop holistic skills for life.

As Governors, we work closely with all members of staff to ensure that pupils feel safe, valued, and receive the appropriate support and level of challenge to develop their potential. We do this through regular school visits and termly meetings. We scrutinise a range of data, for areas such as assessment and attendance, and ask questions that both challenge and support staff. We also celebrate the many successes we see in school on every visit. The Governing body sits within the broader structure of Enable Trust, and we work closely with Trustees and the Central Team to support the school.
