  Term 1 – Autumn

  This term, our class is exploring the exciting topic of Autumn. We will be discovering what happens as the seasons change, exploring the colours, textures, sounds and smells of autumn. Through sensory activities and outdoor exploration, we will investigate fallen leaves, changing weather and other signs of the season in our local environment.

  For our story this term, we will be enjoying Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert, using a range of sensory experiences to bring the story to life and support communication, engagement and exploration.

  In maths, we will be developing our understanding of number and shape through practical, hands-on activities and sensory learning opportunities.

  Classroom

  

  Our classroom is a calm and nurturing environment where we learn and grow together. It is a welcoming space where everyone feels valued and included. We use the room for circle time, independent learning, and 1:1 sessions, allowing each of us to learn in ways that suit our needs. The walls are filled with our work, celebrating our achievements and showing that everyone’s contributions are important. It’s a space where we can feel proud, supported, and ready to learn every day.

  Reading corner

  Our reading corner is a cosy and inviting part of our classroom where we can relax and enjoy books. It’s filled with a wide range of stories for us to choose from, encouraging everyone to find something they love to read. This quiet space within the main classroom gives us a calm place to sit, think, and explore books. It’s a special area that helps us develop a love for reading while feeling comfortable and peaceful.

  Group room

  Our group room is a separate space connected to our main classroom, providing a calm and quiet area when pupils need some time away from the busy classroom. It’s used for a variety of activities, including completing pupils’ OT plans, doing focused 1:1 work, and developing play skills in a supportive environment. The group room helps us meet each pupil’s individual needs, offering a safe and comfortable space to learn, grow, and build confidence.

  Term 1 – Autumn

  This term, we will be exploring the theme “Autumn”, experiencing our local environment through walks to nearby parks and hands-on sensory activities. They will explore natural materials such as leaves, grass, and mud, helping to build curiosity, confidence, and communication skills through meaningful play.

  Our focus story is adapted from "Leaf Man" by Lois Erlert and supports this learning by linking to real-life experiences.

  In maths, we will focus on number, addition and shape.

  Other learning includes Jigsaw (being me in my world), History (black history month), Science (seasonal changes), PE (sensory rubgy), Music and Cooking.

  Children will continue developing communication through music, Makaton, and Attention Autism.

  Yellow class have swimming on Mondays, PE on Wednesdays, outdoor learning on Fridays, and hydrotherapy on Wednesdays for those who access it.

  Please ensure children have wellies and a spare set of clothes in school.

  Throughout the term, we will enjoy working together, sharing experiences, and celebrating our achievements as a class community.

  All of our children are on the Achievement Pathway, and we love to learn through play! Our days are filled with fun, hands-on activities like messy play, role play, cooking, and sports. We enjoy short whole-class and group sessions, and also work 1:1 to focus on our individual targets.

  In Green Class, all of our learning is supported by a strong focus on social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH). We’re always learning how to share, understand our feelings, and talk about them with others. It's a happy, nurturing space where every child is supported to thrive.

  Our classroom is a calm, low-stimulus environment designed to help everyone feel settled and ready to learn. We love to celebrate the children’s work and artwork by displaying it on our walls, and each morning the children write their names on their picture and self-register so we can see who is in school. We also enjoy playing interactive games on the whiteboard, and we have a group room that we use for small-group work and as a quiet break-out space.

  Our learning environment is made up of three key spaces.

  Classroom

  

  The classroom is our main space for learning; we gather here together for circle time, whole-class sessions and meal times. We can take part in lots of immersive experiences whilst meeting our cognition and learning, communication and physio targets.

  Group room

  

  This space is our group room. We use this space for more focussed work; we might also use it to practise our tracking and visual skills, our switch work or to have some dedicated sensory breaks.

  Outside

  Finally, this is our outdoor area where we can use our walking frames, or have a stretch under the covered area on the beanbags! There's also a sand pit and water tray out here for us to explore.

  This term, we are finding out what we might see, hear and smell during autumn time. We will also be using our senses to celebrate Harvest time, with a special Harvest assembly with our friends.

  The classroom is our main space for learning. We can take part in a variety of whole class, group and 1:1 sessions to work towards our communication, social, independence and personalised learning goals.

  
  We are lucky to have a multi purpose group room too! In this room you may see pupils using the space for more focused work, pupils who may need a quieter environment, pupils who may need additonal OT input, pupils developing their play skills or pupils who may need some more sensory input.

  

  
  Finally, this is our outdoor area where we have a trampoline & water tray. We also follow our OT plans including developing our coordination, stretching & balancing skills. We have a tent so we can enjoy this space in all weathers!

  Term 1 – Autumn! We will be exploring Autum with our senses; hearing crunchy leaves & fireworks, tasting cinnamon & apple sauce, feeling pinecones & scarves, smelling clove & oranges, looking at falling leaves & videos of a fire. Our story is called Leaf Man, we will explore Leaf Man’s journey after being blown away, past the geese, over the pumpkins, past the vegetables growing in rows, past the orchard, over the river, over the mountains & finding home. In Maths we have balloon maths & will be exploring cause and effect – dropping balls on drums, beads on cymbals, paint splatting, trains down pipes.

  Classroom

  Our main learning space is the classroom, we gather here for circle time, whole class learning and lunch. We begin our learning together as a whole class before moving to smaller adult led groups to complete learning at an appropriate level.

  Role Play Area

  We have a dedicated role play area to support learning through play. Each term we match the role play area to our learning theme. The role play area is a much loved area of the classroom and provides opportunity to develop social skills, communication and writing.

  Book Nook

  In Violet class we love to read. We have a dedicated reading area with favourite books. Pupils enjoy regular opportunities to share a book or listen to a story. We also enjoy spending time in the school library.

  Group Room

  The group room provides a quiet space for learning. It is used for a variety of activities including Speech and Language Therapy programmes and focused learning.

  Outdoor Area

  The outdoor area is a space shared with our friends in Indigo Class, we enjoy spending playtime with them. It also provides a space for learning outside, we particularly enjoy phonics and mark making in this space.

  Welcome back to Violet class, we hope you all enjoyed your summer break.

  In Term 1 our topic will be all about Autumn. We will be looking at seasonal changes in science and Harvest Festival in RE.

  Our text is called "The leaf thief", written by Alice Hemming.

  In maths we are focusing on number, addition,place value and shape.

  Jigsaw lessons will be based on Being me in my world .

  Music lessons will include Charanga and Big Bear Funk which will be lots of fun.

  This term swimming will be on a Monday morning, so please ensure they have their swimming kit. The children will also get to enjoy visiting the cycle centre each Monday so please bring a packed lunch.

  As the weather may be getting colder please ensure your child has a water proof raincoat every day. A spare set of clothes in their bags would be very useful to change into if they get wet.

  Our main learning area is our classroom. Here we can gather together in a circle for our morning circle time and sit together in a circle for whole class lessons. We can also move to various tables and spaces to do individual learning or to sit and have snack and lunch.

  

  

  Our learning can also continue in our own outdoor area. This is a great place to spend time with friends and engage in interactive activities such as ball games, building and digging in the sand or drawing on the floor.

  

  We can go into the main playground where we can spend time with our friends from other classes and we have a large PE hall for our assemblies and PE lessons too.

  Term 1 - In the Sky

  This term our learning theme is 'In the Sky.' Through our Sensory music, Interactive Story, craft and Sensory Story lessons, we will explore and learn about a variety of things we find in the sky; such as hot air balloons, birds and other flying animals, planes, rockets and Space. Throughout these lessons we will also practice our fine motor skills, mark making, cutting and threading and communication skills.

  In addition to our themed lessons, we will also continue to develop our core skills during our PE lessons and wake up our 5 senses during Sensology. Our focus in our Jigsaw lessons, is Being me in my World. During these lessons we will practice classroom jobs such as tidying up and cleaning as well as hanging up coats and bags.

  This term's book is "Emma Jane's Aeroplane" by Katie Hayworth and we will be using it to access different language and writing skills throughout the term in English.

  In Maths this term we are going to be focussing on place value and shape.

  Our focus this term in Jigsaw is "Being me in my world", where we will celebrate our individuality and uniqueness.

  In P.E we will be developing our ball skills including kicking, catching and throwing.

  In art we will learn about how nature and the sky can inspire our creativity and in Science we will explore animal and bird habitats

  Our topic this term is: Let's Grow Plants

  Diamond class will be working hard to weed, plant and water the school's memory gardening. Alongside this we will also be learning more about preparation for adulthood through 'Talentino'. This will involve learning about gardening, cleaning and even making a cup of decaf tea!

  Our class book is called 'The Extraordinary Gardener by Sam Boughton, this will inspire us to complete our own writing books alongside some non-fiction writing all about plants and the mini-beasts they attract.
  During maths this term we are learning about fractions and length with some practical activities. Our Science lessons will be filled with experiments all about plants and in music we will be looing at the dragon song. Cooking this term will include learning about seasonal fruit and vegetables and making some refreshing snacks such as ice-lollies. As the weather is getting nicer we will move our P.E sessions outside and enjoy playing sports games including bucketball and dodgeball.

  In Jigsaw we are learning all about 'Changing Me' this will include drama circle stories which discuss relationships, attraction, consent and changes which happen during puberty. Alongside this super learning we will continue to explore and work hard our own personal learning targets.

  This term our topic is Up in the sky!

  We are exploring the sensory story 'Space,' using our senses to explore what makes up our solar system.

  In PE we are exploring sensory rugby, completing our physiotherapy and/or OT targets and some of us go to hydrotherapy.

  In Art and mark-making we are space writing in various media, making kites, rockets, aeroplanes and planets. In JIGSAW we are looking at the topic 'Being me in my world' and looking at classroom responsibilities. In Music we are exploring song choices in the air: Let's go fly a kite, In the air tonight, I'm walking on air, I'm like a bird, A sky full of stars and Mr Golden Sun.

  We continue to awaken our senses through Sensology, Phonics, Mathematics and Interactive Music.
